Madison, WI - Brianna Homich, Osseo-Fairchild Middle School, Osseo-Fairchild School District, is being recognized as the 2026 Wisconsin School Counselor Association (WSCA) Rising Star Award winner. This award honors a practicing school counselor with five years or less of professional experience who is already making a notable impact in their school community. The school counselor exemplifies excellence and dedication to serving the needs of each and every student. This counselor approaches their work with fresh ideas and a commitment to ensuring every student feels seen, supported, and capable of success. They actively identify and address obstacles that may limit student potential, adapt services to meet diverse needs, and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment.  Homich will be recognized in November 2025 at the WSCA Annual Conference in Wisconsin Dells..

Jen Kronenberg, Director of Special Education and Student Services, stated, “Bree's passion in school counseling shines through in all of the social/emotional work that she does with students. Bree sends each middle schooler a get to know you survey at the beginning of the year that asks them about any academic, social/emotional, and career readiness needs. She works hard to get to know students on a personal level and makes sure that they all have someone to reach out to if they need a boost.” Director Jen Kronenberg shared, “Another example of Bree's commitment to students’ well-being in the SEL arena is that she is the co-advisor for our HOPE squad. This is a student led group that focuses on building mental wellness, increasing student belonging and ensuring student safety. Bree has helped this group get training in suicide prevention and intervention as well as peer supports. Students repeatedly report how excited they are for some of the activities put on by the HOPE squad, including the district wide Chill Week and Bullying Prevention activities.

Finally, Kronenberg shared, “In the area of career development needs, Bree has done some amazingly innovative work that has been incredibly well received and has fostered new connections within the community. Bree created a Career Clusters exploration experience for her middle school students. Each month students interested in a specific career cluster have the opportunity to visit a local business, tour the facilities, ask questions and explore! This has been an awesome way to get kids in the community, but additionally, kids are getting excited about their career prospects and next steps.”

Every year, WSCA recognizes individuals within the school counseling profession who demonstrate a profound impact on the profession and the lives of students. This award honors the Rising Star's exceptional promise through professional competence, meaningful contributions to their school community, and the ability to form strong, positive connections with students, families, and colleagues. Nominations are thoughtfully reviewed by the WSCA Professional Recognition & Scholarship Committee, composed of active and retired school counselors, who carefully evaluate each nominee’s contributions and select one school counselor each year to receive this award.
